The thing about movies like Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Once Upon a Time in Anatolia is that they're so deliberately enigmatic that it's possible for any number of meanings to be derived from the obscure fashion in which the story is told. The story in this movie is secondary to the study of the characters of a handful of policemen and officials engaged on a rambling journey across the inhospitable Anatolian steppes in search of the burial place of a murder victim. We accompany these men — a police chief (Yilmaz Erdogan), prosecutor (Taner Birsel) and doctor (Muhammet Uzuner) — as they follow the hazy directions of the self-confessed killer, who is struggling to remember just where he and his retarded brother buried their victim. A number of conversations take place amongst these men. Some are mundane, and some are more meaningful, and all provide clues to the unspoken personal concerns that each man hides. These naturalised conversations tap into those of ordinary people in the same way that a writer like Tarantino does.

Afterward he went a little crazy and disappeared. This movie is about Josh Waitzkin (Max Pomeranc) who is discovered as a chess prodigy. His family hires a coach named Bruce (Ben Kingsley) who wants to mold Josh into the next Bobby Fisher. Josh however likes playing speed chess in the park where he befriends Vinnie (Laurence Fishburne). The movie is about the pressure upon Josh to compete and the different directions his teacher Bruce and mentor Vinnie want to take him. The conflict in the story arises from the fact that Josh is first drawn to chess watching speed players in New York's Washington Square Park like Vinnie. When he gets a coach however Bruce demands discipline and tries to ban him from that style. The movie works on two levels. First, playing speed chess gives excitement to what is otherwise a very slow and dull game to watch in a movie. More importantly, it's great to see little Josh play without a seeming care in the world. He's so young and innocent it doesn't seem like he will have the killer instinct to play top ranked competitive chess.

Upon being whisked up-train by a sublevel rail system (! ), Layton meets brakemen Roche (Mike O'Malley) and Till (Mickey Sumner), as well as hospitality chief Melanie (Jennifer Connelly).
